Club Directors and Coaches:
Thank you for your interest in A5’s Kudzu Klassic. We are hopeful that this tournament will evolve into the tournament of choice for those who want to fill the void between Big South and the SRVA Championship. This document as well as schedules and results will be posted and continuously updated on the tournament’s website, southernvolleyballshowcase.com. It is important that every coach read this document in its entirety, as it will take the place of a coaches’ meeting.
TOURNAMENT VENUE:
Tournament locations follow. Directions to tournament venues are posted on SRVA.com:
**2012 Venues to be announced soon
TOURNAMENT FORMAT:
Matches will be best two of three sets, with the first two sets being to 25 points, and the deciding set—if necessary—to 15. Tiebreaking protocol is described below.
The warm-up protocol will be 2-4-4 for all matches—i.e., 2 minutes of shared court time for warm-up on your side only; 4 minutes for serving team to hit and/or serve; 4 minutes for receiving team to hit and/or serve. To enable the playing of matches to 25 without the tournament falling behind, officials will call for the Captain’s Meeting of the subsequent match immediately upon completion of the previous match, and the 10-minute warm-up will commence at that time.
Liberos may serve.
Every team is guaranteed five matches.
The first matches on Saturday and Sunday will commence at 8:00 a.m.; subsequent matches will commence immediately upon completion of the previous match. Saturday’s afternoon pool will commence at 3:00 p.m., with subsequent matches starting as soon as they are able.
Unless specifically noted to the contrary on the schedule, on Sunday, the loser on a given court is obligated to officiate the match immediately following. This may be true even if the team is completing pool play.
For 14’s and under, players may toss the ball when serving without striking it one time without such action resulting in a point for the other team.
12P Net height will be 7’ 0" and matches will be played using Volleylite balls. There are 12 teams entered in this category. During Saturday pool play they will be divided into three pools of four teams each. The top two finishers advance to the gold bracket on Sunday; those who finish 3rd or 4th will advance to the silver bracket. Consolation matches will be played to ensure that all teams play a minimum of five matches.
13P There are 10 teams in this category. They will be divided into two pools of five teams each, the results of which will determine the seeding for the single elimination championship bracket. All teams advance. No consolation matches will be played.
14P There are 12 teams entered in this category. During Saturday pool play they will be divided into three pools of four teams each. The top two finishers advance to the gold bracket on Sunday; those who finish 3rd or 4th will advance to the silver bracket. Consolation matches will be played to ensure that all teams play a minimum of five matches.
15P 11 teams are entered in this category. They will be divided into pools of five and six. The top three teams in each pool will advance to the goldbracket; 4th – 6th will advance to the silver. No consolation matches will be played.
16P There are 8 teams entered in this division. They will be divided into two pools of four, the results of which shall be used to seed Sunday’s single elimination bracket. Consolation matches will be played by those teams losing their first match of bracket play.
TIEBREAKERS
Ties will be resolved per USAV Southern Region Protocol:
Teams qualifying for the playoffs but tied for position only shall not compete in a playoff set to determine seed. Rather, each team’s position shall be determined by the priority system described below.
No teams shall be eliminated from contention for the Tournament Championship bracket based solely upon set percentage or point differential. If there are more teams tied for the playoffs based on match results than there are positions in the championship pool or bracket, the tied teams will compete in a minimum number of playoff sets.
Any playoff necessary to determine which team will advance will be resolved with a one-set playoff to 25 points, switch sides at 13, win by 2 with no cap.
If two (2) or more teams are tied for the same number of playoff positions, all teams advance and each team’s position or seed shall be determined by the following methods. When using these methods to determine position of teams the following order will be followed without repetition.
o If two teams are tied for two spots, the higher seed is determined by the results of the match between the two teams
o If three or more teams are involved the superior team(s) is determined by best match record, followed by set percentage, followed by a comparison of the total point spread for all of round-robin pool sets played.
o If still tied, a coin toss will determine playoff positions.
If two or more teams are tied for one playoff position, the minimum number of 25 point rally-point sets will be played:
o Two teams tied for one position: one 25 point rally-point set.
o Three teams tied for one position: Superior team, determined by best record using set percentage, then by total point spread, will receive a BYE and plays the winner of a 25 point rally-point set between the two remaining teams.
If three teams are tied for two positions: Team with best record using set percentage, and if still tied, then by best total point spread is given the first
position and automatically advances, with the two remaining teams playing one 25 point rally-point set to determine the second position.
NOTE 1: Point Spread is determined by subtracting points allowed during all pool play from points scored during all pool play with the highest number being the higher ranked team.
NOTE 2: If a team involved in a tiebreaking match—whether reffing or playing—has left the building for any reason they will automatically forfeit their position.
